“But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and He that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art Mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” Isaiah 43:1-2
The words the Lord uses in this passage bring comfort and reassurance to His people. His divine foreknowledge of events should help us trust Him, for He knows what great and varied trials lay ahead and He tells us, no He commands us, “Fear Not.”
He reminds us that He created and formed us and it is for His glory that we were made. He then says, “For I have redeemed thee.” God has purchased us for Himself and set us free from the bonds of sin and He calls each one of us by our name and declares that we are His.
He goes on to promise that He will be with us in every trial. “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee.” Note He doesn’t promise us immunity from trouble or what He will do for us but we are assured of His presence, even in the worst of places and that is all we need to meet all our necessities. Rivers of trouble will not overflow us or the trials of fire burn us because where God is all is safe. We know that all things work together for good to them that love God. The rivers, waters, fire and flame are designed to bring us benefits and blessings. We are indeed precious in His sight for He declares, “I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour.”
